Karly Marie Stothart (born September 9th, 1987) is an aspiring actor/singer/model, and hopes to lend a helping hand to those in need, by obtaining a diploma in Social Work. Already graduating from a one year program at Durham College in Pre-Media studies, she plans to further her studies at another College starting January 2008, focusing on becoming a Social Service Worker. Early life Born in a small town East of Toronto, Ontario to a French Mother and Native (Métis) Father, Karly grew up knowing a lot about love and support from both parents. Dave and Marie Stothart have been very supportive of any career she has chosen to pursue, and believes “anything Karly puts her mind to, she can achieve”. Karly has one older brother to whom she is very close with, Jamie, 25, and she has been quoted as saying that “he is my partner in crime”. Although Jamie lives away from home, and starting a family of his own, they try to talk on a daily basis. From birth, Karly has always been a performer, and at the tender age of 9 she was able to show some of her singing abilities to people of her community. Along with several young girls in her Grade 4 class, Karly had to audition for the leading role of Mrs. Clause for the upcoming Christmas Concert. She had to sing the song that Mrs. Clause would be performing the night of the show. Once the audition was over, she received the news that she had been chosen to play the role, and that marked the first solo performance Karly had ever done, and from then on, she didn’t look back. After years of elementary school performances, singing lessons and drama classes, it was time for her to move on to higher education. Karly continued to perform while in high school by participating in the choir, and other dramatic programs, but felt it wasn’t enough. The summer of 2001 Karly’s Mother (Marie) had approached her about a local theatre program, and with great interest, she signed up immediately. During that summer of 2001 Karly performed on stage in front of numerous audiences in the play ‘King Artie & The Knights Of The Rad Table’, and also helping out with the set design of another production called ‘Camelot’. Once the summer came to an end, Karly knew she had to continue with her love of theatre, so she become characters for local plays like ‘Toys Take Over Christmas’, ‘Mystery Of The Gumdrop Dragon’, ‘Blue Suede Paws’, ‘Sound Of Music’, ‘Christmas In Oz’, “A Christmas Carol’, ‘A Lesson On Living’, and ‘Annie’. But after a lot of singing lessons, dancing lessons, and hours of rehearsing for theatre productions, Karly found herself very interested in filmmaking, and acting in front of a camera. She researched anything she could through the internet regarding acting agencies, and got in touch with a few agents, and some producers, located in Toronto, Ontario. One producer was kind enough to reply to her e-mail and give her some information about a television production he was working on called, ‘Starstruck’. She was asked to send in an audition tape stating who she would like to interview, if given the chance. A few months following her mailed videotape, Karly was surprised with an all expense paid trip to Hollywood, California. While in Hollywood she got to speak with some of Hollywood’s leading actors like Jim Carrey from ‘Number 23’, Mark Ruffalo from ‘Zodiac’ (2007), and Kate Winslet from ‘Titanic’. She was also among Kirsten Dunst from ‘Marie Antoinette’, Elijah Wood from ‘Lord Of The Rings’, Dominic Monaghan from ‘Lord Of The Rings’ and ‘Lost’ (TV series), and was able to stand next to one of Hollywood’s funniest comedians, Rodney Dangerfield, before his death. After filming a reality show (Starstruck) in Los Angeles, Karly knew that she wanted to pursue a career in acting. After having many agents, a few auditions, some extra work, a student film, and professional one-on-one workshops with actor Shawn Lawrence from ‘Out Of Reach’ (2004), she found herself wondering what to do after her high school graduation. At the age of 18 Karly was determined to pursue a career in acting. She audition for Humber College and was placed in one of Canada’s only Acting For Film And Television programs. She completed one semester of studies at Humber College, and felt acting could be something she could pursue on the side, while focusing her educational studies on something different. Karly is still involved in acting, her latest gig being a dancer in a music video. She has also been asked to do various photoshoots with professional photographers, and has been booked to model for a bridal fashion show coming up this January (2008). Once school starts, Karly plans to focus her attention on her studies, while pursuing acting, modeling and singing on the side. |
